WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION

BY SAM KERSON AND KATAH

Sam Kersona and Katah are artists engagés, whose main interest is, cultural exchange. They practice a peaceful vision by teaching and learning in residencies and with dance, theatre, music, images and imagination.  They just arrived back from a nine month tour, which started in March in Slovakia, guarding the Maria Valeria Bridge across the Danube; at the time of the summer solstice. They headed west to France and created a vesion of "Persephone in the Underworld".  In October, they crossed the Atlantic to Mexico, celebrating Day of the Dead by creating a puppet show, "El Secreto Illuminado", at the Museo Historico in Jalpan de Serra, Queretaro.

Bringing these images to the web was a collaborative process, the drawings were made by Sam Kerson with charcoal and white pastel on 18 x 24 paper, then Katah digitized the images, colored them and put them on the web.

These images may be seen as a work in progress as they do suggest themselves as lino cuts or bande dessiné. They were made in the spring of 2005 in Rivière Trois-Pistoles, Québec.

The series is intended as a memorial to the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, August 6 and 9, 1945.

Though we read widely on the internet about the use of these Depleted Uranium weapons, during the drawing process our constant companion was the book, Metal of Dishonor*
