We live
in a world where the moment matters. Sometimes that’s all
that matters, until the next moment. We travel in our
mechanized boxes, live in our cement, brick, or wood houses,
commerce in our large buildings or small stores or banks,
and raise our children to do the same. Always in the moment.
Be here now. Live for the moment. Moment matters. Fast food.
Fast living. Fast rewards. We are finding that without
preparation, without insight, and without perspective we
live in the moment but may sabotage the moments to come.
In the wake of Katrina, the
moment mattered. But the moments that followed and the
moments that preceded the storm, which forced a wider view
of people in distress and a nation in turmoil, mattered as
well. In western thought we see the part attached to the
whole. When we stretch beyond our brains, we view more, we
see more, we feel more, and can do more.
From an intuitive perspective
change is at hand. It is not based on the ill-conceived
plans of a government, the imbalance of nature, or the
improbabilities of chance. Change has been coming for
several years- in the environment, in the mind-set, and in
the inner lives of people throughout the world. People are
looking for purpose. They are looking for innovation, they
are hoping for balance. They are not seeking momentary
plans. They are trying for a wider view of their lives,
their children, their world and themselves. The first step
is recognition of something greater at hand. Life is a
greater process and we are a part of it, we do not control
it. We do not master it. We do not bend to its will. We
learn from it.
People often ask me what is
going on? Why are such crazy things happening in this world
right now? Is this the end? I feel it is a beginning. An
opening. Life is a process and we are beginning to look
under the rug, examine what is needed, and strive for
harmony in our lives. Stress is not a mantra. Life is never
perfect nor continually balanced. It is a chance to be in
the moment with an eye on the future and a footprint from
the past. Are we learning? Look past the moment of
frustration and turmoil with eyes that can see the
opportunities rather than the instant of time in our
collective thought.
What if we were each here to
learn… something… anything…something deeper and constructive
in our own lives, not just for a moment, but also for a
lifetime. This is no magic carpet ride. Nature and even our
social institutions are screaming for change. Are you
listening?
